Vietnam photo series: Ninh Binh, Ha long bay/Cat ba, Hanoi, Sapa and Ha giang

Photo series of North Vietnam

Well my journey has come to an end in Vietnam. Currently I’m in Laos now. But with a huge load of pictures and memories I want to share you a bit of it. This photo series is about the Northern part of Vietnam. In wintertime it is much colder, rainy and if you are lucky a bit of sun. Because the landscape in the north is so dramatic it is very much worth it to visit. From rocks and mountains straight out of the sea and rivers in Ninh Binh and Ha Long Ba, to the shell catchers of Cat Ba, the cultural and political heart of Hanoi, the ethnic groups and the rice fields in Sapa and the most spectacular and remote parts in Ha Giang.

Ninh Binh

I came from the middle of Vietnam the caves of Phong Nha and drove by train to Ninh Binh from Dong Hoi (close to Phong Nha). Ninh Binh is town is not that special like any other minor town in Vietnam. The national park however is stunning. My homestay was in the heart of the national park near the Trang An boat tour near the river and the high rocks. I did a boat tour in Trang An and went up the hill of Tam Coc or Hang mua.

Ha Long bay / Cat Ba

A lot of people take the trip to Ha Long bay / Ha long city. However this is the most busiest part of the entire bay. So I decide to go to the less crowded part the island of Cat Ba. Cat Ba is part of the entire Ha Long Bay. It is spectacular because of the boat tours and the tremendous sights of the rocks raising out of the sea. But it is also very calm if you ride a motorcycle to the other side of the island visit some caves and the national park

Hanoi

The cultural and political capital of Vietnam. Everything started here in Vietnam during and after the war of independence and civil war. It is interesting insight of the history of Vietnam and especially about Ho Chi Minh.

North Vietnam (Sapa and Ha giang)

North Vietnam Sapa and Ha Giang are the most beautiful and dramatic landscape parts of Vietnam. If you go to Sapa you do the more convenient treks with the local people. But if you go to Ha Giang that is the most remote area but some backpackers go there. And for a good reason because that is the most pure Vietnam I’ve been. Friendly people and authentic environment.
